2023-24 FA Cup: Fifth Round – Luton vs Manchester City

[ad_1]

Luton Town host reigning champions, Manchester City at Kenilworth Road in the Fifth Round of the 2023-24 FA Cup.

Victory would see Rob Edwards’ Hatters reach the Quarter-Finals for the first time since 1993-94 season, whilst Man City seek to reach the last eight for a sixth consecutive season.

Albert Sambi Lokonga is ruled out for Luton after he suffered a hamstring injury in their Premier League loss at Liverpool last week.

Issa Kabore is ineligible to feature against his parent club so will miss this game, whilst Elijah Adebayo (hamstring), Mads Andersen (calf), Marvelous Nakamba, Jacob Brown (both knee) and Tom Lockyer (illness) remain absent.

Man City have no fresh injury concerns to report after their league win at Bournemouth and Josko Gvardiol (ankle) could return

When is Kick-Off?

Luton host Man City at Kenilworth Road at 8pm GMT on Tuesday 27 February, live on ITV1 in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • Luton have won two of seven previous FA Cup meetings against Man City across six ties (W2, D1, L4).
  • Man City have won two of four previous FA Cup visits to Luton (W2, L2).
  • Luton have failed to keep a clean sheet in their four previous FA Cup matches at home to Man City.
  • Luton have won one of their last five FA Cup ties against Premier League opposition (W1, D1, L4).
  • Man City have lost one of their last six FA Cup ties against top-flight opposition (W5, L1).

Prediction

With Premier League survival currently their biggest priority, Luton have to view this game as a free hit especially given how they bravely took the fight to Liverpool last Wednesday only to blow a half-time lead through some lacklustre marking.

Rob Edwards’ Hatters however have now had six days to focus on their defensive play which will be crucial here such is the high-quality opposition that they’re facing, although they did give City a headache here in their league clash in December.

Man City though have been pretty lucky to draw against Chelsea then beat Brentford and Bournemouth in their last three games, because their end product has been pretty wasteful yet they’ve somehow been clinical through ideal positioning to pounce upon defensive errors.

Pep Guardiola Cityzens therefore will surely be aware that their luck will run out at some point soon if not careful, but I don’t see that happening here although Luton certainly won’t make this easy by any stretch.

Prediction: Luton 1-2 Manchester City
