Ford announces its plans to electrify Pikes Peak this year.
The Pikes Peak International Hill Climb is one of the motorsport world’s most respected, revered, and daunting challenges, with manufacturers bringing the greatest cars and engineering capabilities they can muster to the event to attempt record-breaking runs on the winding and mountainous Colorado route, and drivers testing their mettle behind the wheel at one of the most challenging courses the racing world has to offer.
With the 102nd running of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb approaching this year, Ford is announcing its plans to take it on, and what the historic manufacturer is doing it with is an all-new Ford F-150 Lightning electric demonstrator, which is bound to show off the incredible high-performance potential of the all-electric truck.
With the Ford F-150 Lightning name originating in an SVT-made performance-oriented version of the F-150, this Pikes Peak racing-ready F-150 Lightning will hopefully revive the performance spirit that the name carried, and demonstrate Ford’s performance engineering capabilities at the Hill Climb, which is set to take place June 23, after the qualifying days which are June 18-20.
The high-performance machine will be brought to fruition with the help of Gran Turismo, the iconic household name in racing simulation video games, which is known for its long standing partnership and involvement with the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. Entering as competitor number 150, the new all-electric Ford F-150 Lightning demonstrator hopes to shock at this year’s Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.
