Health and Safety launch investigation after man seriously injured in fall

 There was a large emergency service response last Friday (March 8) in response to reports of a fall in the Millfield area of Sunderland.

Police, fire, ambulance and the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) were in attendance.

The incident took place at shortly after 9.50am and a man was rushed to the Royal Victoria Infirmary for treatment.

Today, a HSE spokesperson said: “A man was taken to hospital following an incident in Corning Road, Sunderland on 8 March 2024.

“The man remains in hospital with serious injuries.

“We are also carrying out an investigation into the incident.”

A GNAAS spokesperson previously said: “Our critical care team was activated at 10.06am to reports of a fall in the Millfield area of Sunderland.

“We had two doctors and a paramedic on board our aircraft and once they arrived on scene, they worked alongside the North East Ambulance Service to assess and treat a patient.

“The patient was taken to hospital by the North East Ambulance Service, accompanied by our team.”

A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson previously said: “We were called to an incident on Corning Road, Sunderland at 9.57 this morning.

“We dispatched an officer, a clinical team leader, and double crewed ambulance and four vehicles from our Hazardous Area Response Team.

“We also requested support from Great North Air Ambulance Service.

“One patient was pre-alerted to the Royal Victoria Infirmary with serious injuries, and was transported by road with a doctor on board.”

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Shortly after 9.50am today (Friday), we responded to a report of a concern for safety at a business premises off Corning Road in Sunderland.

“Emergency services attended the scene, and a man has since been taken to hospital for treatment of serious injuries.”
