Trump can’t post $464m bond to appeal civil fraud case, lawyers say: Latest updates
[ad_1]
Donald Trump has failed to secure a bond to satisfy the nearly half-a-billion-dollar civil fraud judgment against him, his lawyers told an appeals court on Monday.
The former president’s attorneys argued that finding a company to back a bond in excess of $454m plus millions of dollars in interest is a “practical impossibility,” and one that raises the possibility that New York Attorney General Letitia James can begin seizing his assets unless the court intervenes.
Mr Trump has approached “about 30 surety companies through four separate brokers” to no avail – one week before Ms James can begin collecting.
Meanwhile, the former president is once again facing criticism over his use of inflammatory rhetoric after he declared at a campaign rally in Ohio on Saturday: “If I don’t get elected it’s going to be a bloodbath for the country.”
The Republican presidential challenger used the phrase as part of a dire economic forecast for the American auto industry but was swiftly rebuked by the White House over its wider implications, with spokespeople for Joe Biden accusing him of “endorsing political violence” – particularly given that the candidate had also bemoaned the fate of the “J6 hostages” at the same event.
Judge rules Stormy Daniels and Michael Cohen can testify in Trump’s hush money trial
On Monday, New York Judge Juan Merchan also rejected Mr Trump’s attempts to block testimony from Michael Cohen, his former attorney who allegedly supported a scheme to bury compromising details of Mr Trump’s affairs leading up to the 2016 presidential election.
Judge Merchan also rejected Mr Trump’s attempts to block testimony from former Playboy model Karen McDougal, who allegedly had an affair with Mr Trump before his presidency.

Truth Social: Trump brags about golf tournament win and brawls with Liz Cheney
He just wants to be loved, doesn’t he?
I honestly don’t know why he doesn’t just stick to playing 18 holes and trolling celebrities on his phone and give up on this politics lark altogether.
One person who could well do without him is Liz Cheney, who pushes back angrily against his smears below, which arise from allegations made by his former aide Kash Patel in The Federalist claiming that her January 6 congressional committee deliberately withheld information during its 2022 hearings, a charge she hotly denies.

Trump fails to condemn Putin over Navalny death
The MediaBuzz host gave the Republican presidential contender a chance to condemn the Russian president, just returned to power in a sham election, over the highly suspicious death of heroic dissident Alexei Navalny in an Arctic prison camp last month and, of course, he flubbed his answer, reluctant to call out a dictator he has repeatedly championed.
