Thunderstorms possible across Bay Area this weekend

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — With rain and wind expected this weekend, there is also a slight, but increasing, chance of thunderstorms, according to the National Weather Service. The NWS has issued a thunderstorm outlook for Friday and Saturday.

What is a thunderstorm outlook?

According to the NWS, a thunderstorm outlook means there is a 10% or greater chance for thunderstorms in impacted areas. Thunderstorm hazards include:

  • Lightning
  • Gusty winds
  • Localized flooding
  • Small hail

What areas will be impacted?

The area impacted by the outlook encompasses much of the Bay Area, ranging as far south as Modesto and as far north as Yreka. Bay Area cities impacted by the outlook include San Francisco, San Jose, and Santa Rosa.

A cold front due to arrive Friday will bring light to moderate rain to the region, according to the NWS. Cool and unsettled conditions are expected to continue into the middle of next week.
