2023-24 Sky Bet Championship: Week 39 – Blackburn vs Ipswich
[ad_1]
Blackburn Rovers entertain promotion-chasing Ipswich Town at Ewood Park in a huge Championship clash.
Victory could see Blackburn climb to 16th if Millwall lose elsewhere, whilst Ipswich can go top with a win if Leicester fail to defeat Bristol City in the lunchtime kick-off.
Team News
Arnor Sigurdsson is ruled out for Blackburn after he suffered an ankle injury whilst on international duty for Iceland.
Joe Rankin-Costello (knee) and Hayden Carter (hamstring) could feature but John Buckley (knee) is a doubt.
John Fleck (shin) and Sam Barnes (thigh) remain absent.
Ipswich will be without Wes Burns after he suffered a hamstring injury during their win against Sheffield Wednesday last time out.
Lewis Travis is ineligible to face his parent club due to being with the Tractor Boys on loan.
George Hirst (hamstring) and Janoi Donacien (adductor) remain absent.
When is Kick-Off?
Blackburn host Ipswich at Ewood Park on Good Friday 29 March at 5:30pm GMT, live on Sky Sports in the UK.
Stat Attack
- Blackburn have won one of their last six league meetings against Ipswich (W1, D2, L3).
- Ipswich are winless in their eight league visits to Blackburn (D2, L6).
- Blackburn have kept clean sheets in five of their last six home matches against Ipswich.
- Rovers have claimed eight points in seven league matches at home in 2024 (W1, D5, L1).
- Kieffer Moore has scored five goals in four of his last five away appearances for Ipswich.
Prediction
Winless in their last eight league matches despite scraping six points together in that run, Blackburn certainly need to start stepping up their game and cut out those sloppy defensive mistakes if want to start getting wins in order to stay up.
A clean sheet at Middlesbrough though should give them belief that they can build upon that performance, but with a more clinical edge if can keep a clean sheet at the back.
Ipswich meanwhile are right in the fight for promotion and after demolishing Sheffield Wednesday a fortnight ago, there is no reason why they can’t produce another clinical performance even without Burns but their away form at Blackburn is an Achilles heel to overcome.
On that note, I do expect Blackburn to try and force Ipswich into a scrap given their habit of clawing points together, but if Ipswich can continue their hot form then they should snatch the win.
Prediction: Blackburn 1-2 Ipswich
