2023-24 Premier League: Week 30 – Liverpool vs Brighton
[ad_1]
Liverpool resume their Premier League title bid against Brighton & Hove Albion at Anfield.
Victory would put Liverpool top unless Arsenal beat Man City in the afternoon kick-off, whilst Brighton can go seventh with a win.
Team News
Darwin Nunez could return for Liverpool after he recovered from a hamstring injury suffered during their dramatic FA Cup exit at Manchester United.
Andrew Robertson (ankle) and Curtis Jones (bone) could be available for selection but Ben Doak, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Diogo Jota (all knee), Joel Matip (ACL), Thiago Alcantara (muscle), Stefan Bajcetic (calf) and Alisson (hamstring) remain absent.
Brighton could welcome Joao Pedro (hamstring) and James Milner (thigh) back into contention.
Jack Hinshelwood (foot), Kaoru Mitoma (back) and Solly March (knee) remain absent.
When is Kick-Off?
Liverpool host Brighton at Anfield on Easter Sunday 31 March at 2pm BST, live on Sky Sports in the UK.
Stat Attack
- Liverpool have won one of their last seven league meetings against Brighton (W1, D4, L2).
- Brighton have won one of their six previous Premier League visits to Liverpool at Anfield (W1, D2, L3).
- Brighton’s Lewis Dunk has scored in each of his last two appearances against Liverpool in all competitions (W1, D1), albeit at home rather than on the road.
- Liverpool have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last six matches at home (W4, D2).
- Brighton have won one of their five league matches on the road in 2024 (W1, D1, L3).
Prediction
Although the FA Cup is now gone, Liverpool now have to knuckle down because they can still do the treble but the defeat at Man Utd showed how vulnerable they can be on the counter-attack, which is a concern especially given their lack of clean sheets at home since mid November.
Brighton meanwhile are in a scrap for an European spot and although they scraped narrow wins against Nottingham Forest and Roma recently, they will have to play much better if want any chance of picking up points.
Under Roberto De Zerbi, Brighton though have been Liverpool’s Achilles heel with the Reds having failed to win any of their four recent meetings, but I can see that rut ending if Liverpool are at their effective best and the Seagulls might be lucky to snatch a point at best.
Prediction: Liverpool 2-1 Brighton
