Booker T praises Brock Lesnar after the match against Cody Rhodes at SummerSlam.
Brock Lesnar and Cody Rhodes put an end to their rivalry on August 5 at SummerSlam 2023. ‘The American Nightmare’ defeated Lesnar and something very noteworthy was the moment in which Brock raised Cody’s hand to show him respect, something unheard of in Lesnar.
In his podcast called Hall of Fame, Booker T spoke in depth about Brock Lesnar and praised him for his work during the fight against Rhodes. The Hall of Fame member believes that Lesnar should take a worker of the year award:
It was a great fight. There weren’t a lot of jumps or anything. It was just two guys going out there, punching each other, fighting. The narrative was very, very impressive. The Rocky Balboa vs. the Russian came up for a bit, that never say never, Rocky attitude, you can hit me and hit me, I’ll find a way to win. It was poetic, it was great.
It was one of those matches where everyone who wonders what it means to work a main event, look at that match, and it will tell you everything you need to know, because wrestling is the art of going out there and creating the illusion of a match, a real match, and those guys did it for me.
It’s one of those things, man, those kind of stories, they never die. Those stories, I think wrestling fans can cherish forever because that’s what wrestling is, making you feel like you’re watching something that’s real. You know exactly what it is, you know what you have paid to see. But when those guys make you feel that way, you can’t wait to see more, and that’s the beauty of this thing called wrestling.
It’s the part of Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet, the Phantom of the Opera, that makes me go, “Man, I love this business.” Brock Lesnar, what a worker. What a damn worker. I mean, come on. Brock should get the award of the year, as far as worker of the year, as far as I’m concerned. That’s the good thing that matchup on Saturday night really did.
I know how good Brock is. He just tells me how far he’s come. He has come a long way. He knows what the business is all about. He knows it’s not about him. That’s the part I respect more than anything. He understands about passing the torch and passing it on correctly. That fight was real, as real as it could be, from top to bottom, from start to finish. You can’t draw like that, I don’t think so, really. You have your blueprint as to which way you want to go, but that was kind of old school, being able to listen to the fans and follow the breadcrumbs like Hansel and Gretel.
Brock Lesnar showed real respect for Cody Rhodes at SummerSlam and will now be absent from WWE’s weekly schedule for a while. ‘The Beast’ has been very present at the company’s shows during the first eight months of 2023, but it seems that we will not see it again until the beginning of 2024.
