DENVER (KDVR) — National Burrito Day falls on the first Thursday of April, and it makes the perfect opportunity for Coloradans to try some of the best local burritos.
According to an article by USA Today, the name “burrito” was likely inspired by burros, or donkeys, as street vendors “sold burritos from baskets carried by burros and the donkeys often also bore a cylindrical bedroll.”
Many Mexican food chains are offering deals and promotions for the holiday, including Chipotle and QDOBA, which were both founded in Denver.
Chipotle has a game that burrito lovers can play for a shot at a free burrito with a purchase on Thursday, and QDOBA has a free burrito offer with the purchase of an entree and drink.
These are the highest-rated Denver burritos on Yelp with at least 20 reviews:
- Taqueria La Familia — 4.7 stars — 2642 W. 32nd Ave.
- Toro Food Concepts — 4.4 stars — 1018 E. 11th Ave.
- La Abeja — 4.5 stars — 508 E. Colfax Ave.
- Wild Taco Denver — 4.4 stars — 215 E. 7th Ave.

Additionally, Colorado’s first Hispanic food hall and market is now open in Aurora. There are several local eateries inside for plenty of burrito options in one place.
Other places in Colorado that might be good for burrito day that you won’t find everywhere in the U.S., include Illegal Pete’s, Cafe Rio, El Tapatio, Rio Grande Mexican Restaurant, Fiesta Jalisco, Santiago’s Mexican restaurant, and Torchy’s Tacos.
