Britain’s favourite seaside town has rollercoasters, shows and a pristine beach

IT was my nephew Zack’s 13th birthday so as a special treat to mark the milestone I told him I’d take him away for the weekend — anywhere he chose.
“Blackpool, Pleasure Beach please”, said he.
It wasn’t the first place that sprang to my mind — I’m more a spa resort type of gal — but with four-year-old Bella also in the staycation mix, Blackpool sounded perfect.
So we packed up the car and set off on a Saturday morning, arriving just in time for our 3pm check-in at the 4* Big Blue Hotel.
Zack was well impressed. You can’t get closer to the Pleasure Beach than the Big Blue. It’s literally attached to the theme park.
I’d booked for me, the two kids and my sister Nicola after reading reviews about how good it was for a family holiday and we had to agree.
The seamless check-in, family deluxe room and park views were all brilliant. Zack and Bella were in their element.
After a quick nosey around the hotel we headed for dinner before a big night out at the Hot Ice Show. It was a trip down memory lane for Nicola and I, who as kids, enjoyed this as a treat with our grandad.
This year’s show is called Amore Amor Amour which, as the name suggests, is on the theme of love — and it didn’t disappoint.
It had amazing performances, stunning costumes, mesmerising special effects and, of course, some brilliant skating.
Young Bella was absolutely transfixed by the skaters and even Zack was impressed with the acrobatics. Fair to say we LOVED it!
Next morning we tucked into a sumptuous breakfast at the hotel.
There was so much choice, I think I went back not only for seconds but thirds and fourths!
There was fresh fruit, pastries, cereals and lots of hot offerings too — full English anyone? It was the perfect fuel before a full-on day at the Pleasure Beach.
First stop for Zack was The Big One. I somehow managed to swerve having to go on with him and left that to the braver sister.
Little Bella worked herself into a frenzy of delight when she spotted Nickelodeon Land.
She ran from one ride to the next, meeting and greeting characters along the way.
Zack meanwhile, dragged us to each and every ride in the Pleasure Beach and somehow he managed to go on them all without losing his breakfast or lunch.
After such a full on hectic day at the Pleasure Beach, sis and I needed some downtime, so we headed back to the Big Blue for some big portions at dinner.
There’s a restaurant and a bar menu serving delicious meals and both have a kids menu too.
The staff were lovely and friendly and the atmosphere was fantastic, as families chatted about their daring-do on the thrill rides and even presented Zach with a birthday cake!
Next day we took a tram along the seafront.
It’s an excellent way to travel around Blackpool and cheap too. Get day tickets for two adults and two children for just £18.
We hopped on and off at Madame Tussauds, the Tower, the circus and the iconic piers with their amusements and entertainment.
Memories of childhood trips here flooded back for me and new ones were made for Zach and Bella.
Packing up to reluctantly leave, we all agreed, it’s no wonder Blackpool is Britain’s favourite seaside town.
