Surgeries will resume at Cambridge Memorial Hospital on Friday after they were paused for two days over concerns about medical instruments.
The hospital said there were concerns with the “reprocessing of surgical instruments” and some of the instruments were discoloured.
“Over the past few days, we have reviewed in detail all of our processes,” the hospital said in a statement Thursday. “Guided by external support, some adjustments have been made and we are confident that our surgical instruments once again meet the highest quality and safety standards.”
The hospital was forced to cancel 17 surgeries on Wednesday and 25 on Thursday.
Officials said the hospital had enough surgical instruments to complete any priority surgeries, including any associated with cancer.
Stephanie Pearsall, vice president of clinical services and chief nursing executive, said the hospital was working to reschedule the patients who had their surgeries cancelled and that might mean extending shifts to get through all the surgeries.
“Patient safety is our number one priority and I am confident in the resumption of surgical services to support patients in our community,” Pearsall said in the release Thursday.
