- A Russian missile strike on the central Ukrainian city of Dnipro has targeted a Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) facility and a high-rise apartment building, injuring at least nine people, including two children.
- Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy marked Statehood Day by defiantly reiterating the country’s sovereignty. The Russian Defense Ministry said it shot down a Ukrainian missile in the city of Taganrog about 40 kilometers east of the border with Ukraine. It said another Ukrainian missile was downed in the region’s Azov district.
- The chairman of the African Union said on July 28 that proposals by Russian President Vladimir Putin to provide grain to Africa were insufficient.
- The International Olympic Committee awarded Ukrainian fencer Olha Kharlan a place in the Paris Olympics after she was disqualified at the World Fencing Championships for refusing to shake her Russian opponent’s hand.
- Czech police stopped an unnamed Russian tennis player from entering the country ahead of the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) Prague Open, as a new government resolution banning athletes from Russia or Belarus caused the event to scratch other competitors.
- The Security Service of Ukraine said that a court in Ukraine had sentenced in absentia 18 lawmakers in the Russian parliament’s lower chamber, the State Duma, to 15 years in prison each on a charge of encroaching on the territorial integrity of Ukraine.
- The Russian Interior Ministry said on July 27 that International Criminal Court (ICC) Judge Tomoko Akane has been placed on the government’s wanted list.
- Authorities in Kyiv said Moscow has destroyed dozens of grain export facilities since exiting a UN-brokered grain export deal earlier this month.
