Met Office issues urgent 14-hour flood warning with travel chaos expected

Swathes of the UK are facing yellow weather warnings, as Brits brace for the possibility of flooding as torrential rain is forecast to fall for hours.
Central Scotland, north-west England and most of Wales are all set to be battered by severe downpours from Tuesday into Wednesday.
Meteorologists warned: “Heavy rain may lead to some flooding and disruption to travel”.
The Met Office experts added: “Flooding of a few homes and businesses is likely” and that “some interruption to power supplies and other services likely.
“Bus and train services [will] probably [be] affected with journey times taking longer”.
The weather warning in Scotland misses Glasgow and Edinburgh, but is in place for Fort William, Glencoe and Ben Nevis. It’s also very close to the city of Sterling.
The Met Office warned: “Spray and flooding on roads probably making journey times longer”.
The deluge is due to take place from 6pm tonight to 8am tomorrow morning.
South-west Scotland also has a yellow weather warning in place between Kelso and Lockerbie.
Moving further south, Manchester and Leeds are also set for teacherous conditions, with a yellow weather warning in place on both sides of the Pennines.
The Met Office warning, which has been in place since 6am and will remain until 6pm tomorrow, stretches from Sale and Glossop in the south, to Workington and almost to Carlisle in the north. Residents between these points should take care when travelling, according to the experts.
The vast majority of Wales is also consumed in a yellow weather warning, adding to the list of British regions anticipating carnage-inducing conditions.
Cardiff and Swansea in South Wales will see plenty of rain, and the weather warning extends the length of the country, including to Colwyn Bay in the north.
Much like in the north-west of England, Wales’ weather warning has been in place from 6am today and will stay in place until 6pm tomorrow.
The Met Office’s website warned millions of Brits to take care in the inclement conditions.
It said: “Outbreaks of rain, heavy at times, will affect many parts of the UK on Tuesday and Wednesday.
“The heaviest and most persistent rainfall during this period is expected to affect the high ground of northwest England, northwest Wales and south Wales.
“Over the course of this 36 hours in these areas, 50-100 mm of rainfall is likely to accumulate widely, with as much as 150-200 mm in some locations.”
