Taylor Swift and Sophie Turner’s power dinner adds to Joe Jonas’ woes

Weeks after pro-Joe Jonas sources tried to cast blame on Sophie Turner for the couple’s impending divorce, the “Game of Thrones” star learned she has a very important ally.

On Tuesday night, Turner, 27, stepped out for dinner with Taylor Swift in New York City, emerging from the restaurant linking arms, as the two women headed to a bar for a night-cap and to continue their female bonding.

Right now, Swift isn’t just the most influential women on the planet, she also dated Jonas in 2008 and probably could share some war stories with his newly estranged wife. Swift’s breakup from Jonas wasn’t known to be friendly, with the then-18-year-old telling Ellen DeGeneres that the Jonas Brothers singer broke up with her in a 27-second phone call. But Swift survived and wrote songs for her “Fearless” album — “You All Over Me” and “Mr. Perfectly Fine” — which fans assume were about a “casually cruel” boyfriend who could be Jonas.

Now, the British actor is going through it with Jonas. Earlier this month, he filed for divorce from her after four years of marriage. The pair also share two daughters, 3 and 1.  But rather than leave it as a case of “irreconcilable” differences, Jonas, or his allies, apparently felt a need to gain some kind of P.R. advantage. Turner’s fans believe that his allies were  responsible for anonymous media leaks that portrayed Turner as an immature, hard-partying 20something who couldn’t be bothered to care for their two daughters and left it to their doting father to pick up the slack.

Followers saw through what they believe was an effort by his PR team to “slander the mother of his children,” and they have continued to voice their displeasure on his Instagram posts. Jonas and Turner eventually issued a joint statement saying that the divorce was “amiable” and a “united decision.” They also dismissed “speculative narratives” as to why they were ending their marriage.

Otherwise, Turner has maintained her silence on social media but gained some 156,000 new Instagram followers since the couple’s divorce announcement,  Vanity Fair reported Wednesday. Jonas, meanwhile, only gained a relatively slim 54,000 new followers in the same time period.

Jonas must be “on guard,” Vanity Fair also said. In May, he insisted on the Armchair Expert podcast that he and Swift had made amends. “I’m cool with Taylor. We’re cool,” he said. But in that same interview, he acknowledged that “No one (messes) with the Swifties, you know?”

The image of Swift and Turner out and about in New York City left both women’s fans giddy.

“Taylor Swift and Sophie Turner really just did the most iconic thing possible,” one person tweeted. “Alexa, play Mr. Perfectly Fine.”

Yes, references to Swift’s post-Jonas breakup songs filled many a social media post. On Jonas’s Instagram Wednesday, someone wrote: “SOOO MR PERFECTLY FINE YOUR EXS ARE PERFECTLY FINE WITHOUT YOU.”

The women’s high-profile tête-à-tête also is a reminder that there was never any, uh, bad blood between them, according to People. After Swift brought out “Mr. Perfectly Fine” in 2021, ahead of the re-release of “Fearless,” Turner shared the song on her Instagram Story, calling the track a “bop.” Swift reposted Turner’s post and and added, “Forever bending the knee for the (queen) of the north” in reference to Turner’s role on “Game of Thrones.”

Meanwhile, Swift, who recently scored a record nine MTV Music Awards, has been all about enjoying girls nights out in the Big Apple with other powerful women in media and entertainment, According to People, she was spotted enjoying dinner at Il Buco Alimentari with “Barbie” director Greta Gerwig and actresses Laura Dern and Zoe Kravitz on Monday, while on Saturday night, she and Blake Lively were pictured leaving Zero Bond restaurant in New York.
