The Men’s Coxed Eight Team’s outstanding performance marked their third rowing medal at the Hangzhou Games. The Indian team, consisting of Neeraj, Naresh Kalwaniya, Neetish Kumar, Charanjeet Singh, Jaswinder Singh, Bheem Singh, Punit Kumar, and Ashish, delivered a powerful late push, ultimately finishing just 2.84 seconds behind China, who claimed the gold.
This remarkable achievement took place on the opening day of the Hangzhou Asian Games, and it set a positive tone for India’s medal aspirations in rowing and shooting.
Earlier in the rowing events, Lekh Ram and Babu Lal Yadav had secured India’s third medal and second rowing medal with a bronze finish in the Men’s Pair Final. India finished third with a timing of 6 minutes and 50.41 seconds, following Hong Kong and Uzbekistan in first and second places, respectively. The competition was closely contested, with the top three nations vying fiercely for the gold medal, ultimately won by China.
In addition, Arjun Lal Jat and Arvind Singh had clinched India’s second silver medal in the Asian Games earlier in the day, narrowly finishing behind China in the final of the men’s rowing lightweight double sculls.
The Indian contingent is off to a promising start at the 19th Asian Games, with their achievements in rowing setting high expectations for the competitions ahead.
