Fiat’s family of models in Australia has grown with the launch of the 500, now available in local dealerships and priced from AU$27,220 ($17,578) excluding on-road costs.

The compact hatch will be sold in a single configuration known as Dolcevita. This model comes outfitted with a 1.2-liter naturally-aspirated four-cylinder that produces 51 kW (68 hp) and is coupled to a five-speed automatic transmission driving the front wheels. While the 500 does not offer much performance, it is reasonably well-equipped given its starting price.

All versions of the Fiat 500 Dolcevita sold in Australia will come standard with a fixed glass roof with a sun blind, LED daytime running lights and halogen fog lights, power-adjustable heated wing mirrors, and various chrome highlights across the exterior. Customers will be able to order the 500 in either Gelato White, Bi Color White/Black, Passione Red, Sicilla Orange, Pompei Grey, Rugiada Green, Blue Ottanio, or Vesuvio Black.

Found in the cabin of the 500 are black fabric seats and while most of the cabin is trimmed in black as standard, customers can order the steering wheel and surrounding accents in an ivory shade. Among the key interior features are automatic climate control, a tire pressure monitoring system, cruise control, a speed limiter, rear parking sensors, and both dusk and rain sensors. The hatch also has a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, a 7-inch infotainment display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, and voice control.

The launch of the 2023 Fiat 500 comes shortly after Abarth unveiled its all-electric version of the 500 for the Australian market. Unlike the 1.2-liter model, Abarth’s creation is much more focused on performance and comes equipped with an electric motor producing 113.7 kW (151 hp) and 235 Nm (173 lb-ft) of torque.
