The new fourth-generation Hyundai Verna has achieved a commendable five-star rating in the Global NCAP crash tests, marking it as the first-ever Hyundai car made in India to achieve this distinction. The Hyundai Verna joins the ranks of the last few cars to secure a five-star rating in the “Safer Cars For India” program by Global NCAP, which will soon be replaced by Bharat NCAP in the coming days.

The made-in-India Hyundai Verna, which underwent testing by Global NCAP and attained a five-star rating, was equipped with front, side, and curtain airbags, electronic stability control, front and rear seat belt reminders, and ISOFIX mounts for child seats in the rear. With this five-star performance in Global NCAP crash tests, the Hyundai Verna becomes the third car in its category to achieve this feat, following the Skoda Slavia and Volkswagen Virtus.

Out of a total of 34 points in adult occupant protection, the new Hyundai Verna scored 28.18 points. In the frontal impact test, while the Verna provided good protection to the heads and necks of the front passengers, the bodyshell and footwell area of the car were rated as unstable and “incapable of withstanding further loadings.” Additionally, while the front co-passenger’s chest protection was rated as good, the driver’s chest protection was rated as marginally good.

Even the knees of the front passengers in the new Verna exhibited marginal protection and could be impacted by “dangerous structures” behind the frontal part of the car in the event of a frontal impact. Meanwhile, in the side impact test, the Hyundai Verna provided good protection to the head, abdomen, and pelvis, and adequate protection for the chest. In child occupant protection tests, the Hyundai Verna secured 42 points out of 49, including a commendable 12 out of 12 points in child restraint system installation and 24 out of 24 points in dynamic score.

The Indian Government has already approved Bharat NCAP, a new car safety assessment program that will replace Global NCAP’s program for Indian cars in the coming weeks. This achievement of the Hyundai Verna scoring a full five-star rating in Global NCAP crash tests underscores Hyundai’s commitment to producing new-generation cars for India that offer substantial protection in the event of accidents.
