Tragedy Strikes In Italy After Ferrari And Lamborghini Smash Into Camper Van

A group of supercar enthusiasts participating in a drive on the Italian island of Sardinia saw their event come to a tragic end after two participants were killed in a horrifying crash.

The supercars were traveling along State Road 195, just outside San Giovanni Suergiu, located on the southern tip of Sardinia. In a video of the tragic accident captured by drivers who were apparently not involved in the tour, the high-performance vehicles can be seen jockeying to get around slower moving traffic.

The point-of-view car was following a camper van, when a Ferrari F8 Tributo and a Roma passed it, slotting behind the leading camper van. Soon after, a pair of Lamborghini Huracans, one white and one blue, joined the Ferraris, and it appeared that the POV car reduced its speed to create space for the overtaking supercars.

Tragedy Strikes In Italy After Ferrari And Lamborghini Smash Into Camper Van

All of the supercars seemed impatient among the slower-moving traffic, frequently crossing over the center line to check for oncoming vehicles. Then, in a moment, a lot unfolded at once.

To begin, two additional Ferraris, a California and a 296 GTB, overtook the POV car. Simultaneously, up ahead, the F8, the Roma, and the initial Lamborghini Huracan passed the camper van. The second, blue Huracan waited briefly before beginning to maneuver around the van, creating an opportunity for the California to move to the left and pass both of them.

However, the blue Huracan seemed to be unaware of the California’s presence and gradually shifted leftward. The two cars collided, sending the Lamborghini into the RV’s rear axle, which popped up and twisted it 90-degrees. Once it’s back down on its tires, it leaned over and rolled onto its side, as the Lamborghini continued off the road.

While the fate of the Ferrari California was not clearly visible in the video, reports from the Sardinia Post reveal that the convertible flipped onto its roof in the accident, trapping the occupants—an elderly Swiss couple, a 67-year-old husband and his 63-year-old wife—underneath it. Tragically, the car caught fire, resulting in the loss of both their lives

Reports suggest that the Lamborghini’s occupants, a couple from India, suffered injuries, as did the occupants of the RV, who were from northern Italy.

Authorities are now investigating the incident.
