BENGALURU: Indian leaders are back on the saddle at Cognizant after Ravi Kumar took charge as the CEO in January. With Jatin Dalal joining as Cognizant CFO, the return of Indian-origin leaders underscores massive efforts to revitalise its growth with a new crop of senior recruits.
Cognizant has backfilled senior leadership roles with Infosys and Wipro alumni after a string of senior level exits at the Nasdaq-listed firm.
Sources told TOI that former Infosys EVP and head of cloud Narsimha Rao Mannepalli is likely joining Cognizant as the global head of delivery. Andy Stafford, former EVP, and global delivery head, retired from the company earlier this year.
Nageswar Cherukupalli, former Infosys SVP and head of financial services and insurance, is learnt to be joining Cognizant shortly too.
TOI had reported Mohd Haque, former Wipro SVP, and head of healthcare and medical devices for the Americas, is joining Cognizant as the head of life sciences. An email sent to Cognizant on Mannepalli and Cherukupalli joining the firm didn’t elicit a response till the time of going to the press.
Ajmal Noorani, SVP and head of communication, media, and technology, is now heading only the technology practice while former Infoscion Anurag Vardhan Sinha is the SVP and head of communications and media practices. A three-decade veteran at Infosys, Sinha joined Cognizant in May from Infosys where he was the SVP & head, communications, media, and entertainment (CME) for the Americas.
Cognizant’s plan to hire Infosys and Wipro senior alumni with significant IT experience narrows down its de risking efforts to a small set of companies. Phil Fersht, CEO of HfS Research, said, “Cognizant has suffered from hiring too many senior staff with no IT services experience before Ravi Kumar. Focusing on experienced services people will have a major impact on the firm’s culture as it defines itself for the future.”
Ray Wang, CEO of Constellation Research, said, “Any non-competes with Infosys have expired and there have been a lot of good hires from Wipro. Overall, there is a lot of movement in the industry among talented executives and Cognizant is benefiting from this.”
In yet another senior level exit, Srinivas Shankar, chief commercial officer, Americas and global head of life sciences, has quit the firm after a long innings with the firm.
