The Toyota Fortuner, a vehicle often associated with politicians, VIPs, and India’s elite, has witnessed a price increase just in time for the festive season. The prices of the Fortuner Sigma variant have been raised by up to Rs. 70,000 (ex-showroom), while prices for the Fortuner Legender remain unchanged.

Toyota Fortuner luxury SUV prices hiked yet again

The Toyota Fortuner has long been a crowd favorite, admired for its imposing presence and revered by those who seek power and authority in their vehicle. It is a statement of prestige, often transcending concerns about price. In fact, price-conscious buyers usually don’t find the Fortuner at the top of their list. With the recent price adjustments, the top-spec Fortuner now commands an on-road price of nearly Rs. 64 lakh in Karnataka. In essence, the Fortuner is more than just a vehicle; it is a symbol of power and status. It competes primarily with the MG Gloster and other vehicles in a similar price range in the Indian market.

The price increase applies to the Fortuner Sigma, available in two trim levels: Standard and GR-S. Toyota offers both petrol and diesel engine options for this model, along with manual and automatic transmission variants. The Fortuner Sigma’s diesel variants include 4X4 transfer case options with both manual and automatic transmissions. Prices for 4X2 variants have been raised by Rs. 44,000, while 4X4 variants see a hike of Rs. 70,000, regardless of the engine and gearbox combinations.

Typically, manufacturers tend to avoid raising prices around the festive season to attract more sales. However, the Fortuner is not your typical car; it has a dedicated fan base that remains unwavering despite price hikes. This SUV stands out for several reasons, including its rugged ladder frame platform, which handles challenging terrains with ease. Additionally, it offers a 3-row seating layout, spacious interiors, and a reputation for reliability and durability—qualities for which Toyota is well known.

The Fortuner is available with two engine options: a 2.7-liter 4-cylinder petrol engine that produces 164 bhp of power and 245 Nm of torque. This engine comes with a choice of a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic torque converter and a 4X2 drivetrain. The preferred choice, however, is the 2.8-liter 4-cylinder diesel engine generating 201 bhp of power. With the 6-speed manual gearbox, it offers 420 Nm of peak torque, while the 6-speed automatic torque converter provides 500 Nm of torque. This engine also comes with a 4X4 option.

In a market where price hikes can affect purchasing decisions, the Toyota Fortuner remains an exception. Its popularity is built on the foundation of a vehicle that can tackle various terrains, offer spacious interiors, and embody the trust and indestructibility often associated with Toyota. While the price may rise, the Fortuner’s position as a symbol of prestige remains unshaken. So, for those who seek an enduring and powerful statement of success, the Toyota Fortuner continues to reign supreme, regardless of the price tag.
