The surge in SUV sales is a testament to the growing preference for these versatile vehicles among Indian consumers. In this exhilarating SUV race, the Hyundai Creta emerged as the frontrunner in H1 FY24, leading the sales chart. It was closely pursued by the popular Maruti Suzuki Brezza and the formidable Tata Nexon. These three SUVs have captured the imagination of Indian car buyers and continue to make a significant impact in the market.

During H1 FY24, Hyundai Motor India achieved an impressive sales figure of 83,693 units for the Creta in the domestic market. Maruti Suzuki India, a trusted and renowned automaker, demonstrated its prowess by selling 81,928 units of the Brezza. Tata Motors, on the other hand, solidified its position with 78,975 units of the Nexon finding new homes.
The Top 3 SUVs that emerged victorious in the April-September period are:
1. Hyundai Creta – With a remarkable 83,693 units sold.
2. Maruti Suzuki Brezza – Close on its heels with 81,928 units sold.
3. Tata Nexon – A strong contender with 78,975 units sold.
The Hyundai Creta, a distinguished mid-size SUV, has carved a niche for itself. It competes with the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and the Kia Seltos. This SUV showcases its versatility with a wide price range, starting from Rs. 10.87 lakh and going up to Rs. 19.20 lakh (ex-showroom). The Creta offers two potent engine options – a 1.5-litre MPi petrol engine producing 115PS power and 144Nm torque, and a 1.5-litre U2 CRDi diesel engine with 116PS power and 250Nm torque. The petrol variant provides a choice between a 6-speed manual transmission or an IVT, while the diesel version offers both 6-speed MT and 6-speed AT options.
The Maruti Suzuki Brezza and the Tata Nexon are direct competitors in the compact SUV category. The launch of the new Tata Nexon on September 14 created quite a buzz, and this impacted its sales volume during the previous months. The Maruti Suzuki Brezza is priced in the range of Rs. 8.29 lakh to Rs. 14.14 lakh (ex-showroom). It houses the K15C 1.5-litre petrol engine, generating 103PS power and 137Nm torque. The Brezza offers a 5-speed MT and a 6-speed AT. Additionally, there’s a CNG version with 88PS power and 121Nm torque, paired with a 5-speed AT.
The Tata Nexon continues to gain prominence in the market with a price range starting at Rs. 8.10 lakh and extending up to Rs. 15.50 lakh (ex-showroom). It is powered by two distinct engine options – the Revotron 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine producing 120PS power and 170Nm torque, and the Revotorq 1.5-litre diesel engine delivering 115PS power and 260Nm torque. The Nexon petrol model offers a variety of transmission options, including a 5-speed MT, 6-speed MT, 6-speed AMT, and a 7-speed DCA. The Nexon diesel variant is available with 6-speed MT and 6-speed AMT options.
