The BBC has declared an investigation has been launched into the corporation’s Arabic language service after a number of journalists there were accused of anti-Israeli bias.

In total seven reporters, one a freelancer, are the focus of the probe with BBC bosses already stating that one of them can longer work for the corporation.

The controversy was sparked by posts and likes on X, formerly Twitter, which appeared to back the attack carried out by the Palestinian group Hamas last weekend which left thousands of Israelis dead.

Among the posts reportedly liked included one showing bodies and hostages being driven in a car by militants with the caption a “proud moment”.

Elsewhere, the Telegraph reports a post branding Hamas “freedom fighters” was liked by a BBC Arabic reporter based in Cairo.

Alongside heavy military losses including some 220 soldiers, Israel is also mourning the deaths of thousands of civilians who were killed amid attacks on border settlements which were eventually retaken by the Israeli Defence Forces after two days of heavy fighting.

The next phase of the Israeli response looks to be a full ground invasion of the Gaza Strip with airstrikes currently levelling entire residential blocks in the enclave with columns of tanks and artillery gathering along the border.

Israel has maintained a decades-long siege on Gaza tightly controlling movement as well as the supply of supplies in and out.

Following attacks led by Hamas, Israeli officials announced a total blockade on Gaza is in force meaning “no electricity, no food, no water, no fuel.”
