2024 Genesis G70: More Power, Better Brakes – The Torque Report

[ad_1]

Looking to further challenge German compact sports sedans, Genesis is adding performance enhancements to its entry-level G70 sports sedan.

“We are pleased to bring important updates to our award-winning G70 lineup,” said Claudia Marquez, chief operating officer of Genesis Motor North America. “Customers are passionate about the exhilarating driving experience provided by the G70.”

Most importantly, the 2024 Genesis G70 comes with a standard new 2.5-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder gasoline engine. It now produces 300 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of maximum torque. That’s an increase of 48 horsepower and 51 pound-feet from the 2023 Genesis G70’s 2.0-liter turbo four. The extra power also comes with better braking, thanks to now-standard high-performance Brembo brakes.

That’s more than the entry-level Audi A4’s 261 horsepower, BMW 3 Series’ 255 horsepower, Mercedes-Benz C-Class’s 255 horsepower or Cadillac CT4’s 237 horsepower.

The 2024 Genesis G70’s 3.3L twin-turbocharged V6, rated at 365 horsepower and 376 pound-feet of torque, remains unchanged. An eight-speed automatic transmission is standard, as is rear-wheel drive. All-wheel drive is optional for the snowbound.

The only way you’ll be able to tell a 2024 from a 2023 is the new Genesis emblem or its two new exterior colors, Vatna Gray and Kawah Blue. Inside, a touch-sensitive climate control panel and frameless rear-view mirror are new, along with the addition of standard USB-C charging and a rear side airbag. There are also new interior color combinations, Obsidian Black/Fog Gray and Obsidian Black/Vanilla Beige.

Tech receives upgrades as well, with the availability of Genesis’ NFC-capable Genesis Digital Key 2. It works with Apple Wallet and Samsung Pass, loading the driver’s preferences once the G70 recognizes the specific Digital Key. It also allows the owner to share keys with others via Apple’s iMessage.

Sounds tempting, right? Well, you’ll have to wait for further details, such as an on-sale date and pricing, which should come later this year.

For the record, the 2023 Genesis G70 starts at $39,400. Sounds like a sweet deal to us.
