The Flying Brick: The AMG V-8 Swapped Mercedes V-Class Van Holds Its Own At The Roll Races In Germany!

Well we have been at the sleeper game a long time here in the USA, we certainly don’t have a choke hold on it and this video is proof. Shot at an event being held at a small German airport, the feature attraction is a Mercedes V-class van that has ditched its 2.0L turbo-diesel engine for a 585hp twin-turbocharged AMG V8. Yeah, this thing rules. The V-class is not available in America but it’s basically a dressed up Mercedes Metris that weighs about 5,000lbs and has the aerodynamic appeal of a bread truck.

The runway at this airport is 2.14 miles long by our measurement so we think they are running close to a mile flat out at this event. The van does not win them all but does manage to put a licking on some BMW and Mercedes sedans and it does a shockingly good job hanging with some super cars as well. The levels of curiosity on the faces of event attendees while looking at the van is priceless.

So how fast is it? Through a series of escalating runs the van’s speed climbs to an ungodly 150mph. That’s wild and we’re not sure we’d want to be in the driver’s seat of that thing at a buck and a half. Would you?!
