15-year-old Mercedes SL65 AMG Black Series feels mental even today – The Supercar Blog

The Mercedes SL65 AMG Black Series was unveiled at Pebble Beach all the way back in 2008. This 15-year-old monster still has the legs to take on the mightiest of supercars even today.
The ‘Black Series’ models from this era were truly special. If AMGs were hardcore, the Black Series were absolutely mental. The SL65 for instance, packed a 6.0-liter, twin-turbo V12 that made 670 hp and 738 lb-ft of torque. That’s 1000 Nm going through the rear wheels!
The SL65 AMG Black Series was based on the R230 generation and was offered only as a hard-top coupe. In order to fit massive 265-section front and 325-section rear tires, Mercedes had to widen the track. Hence, the Black Series has flared wheel arches giving it a distinct look. The car also has a retractable spoiler at the rear.
Mercedes produced only 350 units of the SL65 AMG Black Series. Today, a good example will set you back around $350,000.
