2026 Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 HYBRID brings the PHEV – The Torque Report

Mercedes-AMG has announced the 2026 Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 HYBRID, the newest addition to the Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 family.

A facelifted version of the Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 was introduced earlier this year, featuring a mild-hybrid powertrain capable of producing 429 hp and 413 lb-ft of torque. Impressive numbers, of course, but this newly announced 2026 Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 HYBRID, available in both SUV and Coupe body styles, seeks to up the ante even further with a plug-in hybrid powertrain.

This new plug-in powertrain combines a 443 hp 3.9-liter inline-six with a 134 hp electric motor, giving the 2026 Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 HYBRID a combined hp rating of 536 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque, a sizable upgrade to the standard Mercedes-AMG GLE 53. The 2026 Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 HYBRID will be capable of reaching 60 mph in 4.6 seconds, a 0.3-second improvement over the standard Mercedes-AMG GLE 53. The 2026 Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 HYBRID will come standard with AMG Performance 4MATIC+ fully variable all-wheel drive while its 31.2 kWh battery will all-electric driving at speeds up to 87 mph under certain conditions. The 2026 Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 HYBRID will also feature AMG RIDE CONTROL+ air suspension with adaptive damping specifically tuned for the added weight of the battery pack.

Aesthetic upgrades include a model-specific front fascia with an opening to direct airflow to the additional heat exchanger, hybrid-specific badges on the front fenders and tailgate, and hybrid-specific displays and functions on the MBUX infotainment system where drivers can find information like charging status and battery temperature.

The 2026 Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 HYBRID will also feature AMG DYNAMIC SELECT drive programs specially tuned for the plug-in hybrid powertrain. These include a new “Electric” drive program that allows for all-electric driving up to 87 mph and a “Battery Hold” drive program that maintains the battery’s current state of charge, allowing drivers the choice of when they wish to motor on electrons only. An Acoustic Vehicle Altering System will enable others to know that the 2026 Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 HYBRID is coming through specially composed low-frequency sounds emitted to the outside world via front and rear external speakers.

The 2026 Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 HYBRID will arrive in the US later in 2025 as a 2026 model year vehicle.
