Tata Altroz Racer test mule spotted testing for the first time: Hyundai i20 N-Line rival
[ad_1]
Back in January of this year, Tata Motors showcased the sportier and performance-oriented iteration of its premium hatchback, Altroz – The Altroz Racer. Soon after showcasing this model, the company announced that this Hyundai i20 N-Line rival has been confirmed for production and also released an official TVC for it. Now, 9 months later, finally, a test mule of what could be the Altroz Racer has been spotted testing in the country.
Is it a Tata Altroz Racer test mule?
The pictures of this Tata Altroz Racer test mule come courtesy of V3 Cars. According to reports, this performance hatchback mule was spotted in Ooty in the state of Tamil Nadu. The first picture shows the hatchback parked between a Kia Seltos and another hatchback. This particular test mule’s bonnet was open, and as per the report, the test mule had similar hardware to the previously shown concept.

Another picture of this particular Altroz’s engine bay revealed an interesting thing. One of the covers inside the engine bay had “Racer” written by a yellow marker. The report stated that, although it cannot be fully confirmed that this is indeed a “Racer” test mule or not, the mule being fully covered in camouflage more likely than not suggests that it could very well be the Altroz Racer test mule.
Apart from this fully camouflaged test mule, there were two other Altroz test vehicles. Both of these hatchbacks were also wearing red number plates, which suggest that they could be testing something different. The source added that one of the cars finished in grey color did not reveal anything special. However, the other test mule had some cables coming out of the bonnet, suggesting that it could be testing something on the powertrain side of things.
2023 Tata Altroz Racer
For those who might have forgotten about it, Tata Motors back in January of this year at the Indian Auto Expo showcased this model. The company presented this hot hatch as the direct rival to the highly popular Hyundai i20 N-Line. The company also released an official TVC for this performance hatchback as well.
The TVC from Tata Motors showcased a much sportier-looking dual-tone exterior color. In addition, the TVC also highlighted a new 10.25-inch touchscreen display with a fresh software upgrade. Other features shown included a voice-activated electric sunroof, an air purifier, a 7.0-inch digital instrument cluster, and a wireless charger. The video also highlighted six airbags, a brand-new all-black upholstery with red contrast stitching, red and white stripes, and Racer embossing and ventilated leatherette seats.
The major highlight of this hatchback, according to the company, is the 1.2-liter, three-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine. This is the same engine that is featured under the bonnet of Altroz iTurbo. However, it has been more powerfully tuned to generate a maximum of 120 horsepower and 170 Nm of torque. This is 10 horsepower and 30 Nm more than the iTurbo. Its main rival, the Hyundai i20 N Line, on the other hand offers 120 horsepower and 172 Nm of torque.
