After beginning to send some children  home from a London, Ont. children’s mental health facility Wednesday in preparation for a potential strike, a deal was reached Thursday with the union representing its employees.

Vanier Children’s Mental Wellness, located on Trafalgar Street, offers mental health assessment and treatment for infants, children and youth. The Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) represents its employees.

“Negotiations were successful today and a new collective agreement is in place effective immediately,” said Kelly Simpson, the executive director of Vanier, in an email to CBC News.

“We are happy that we can continue to provide our mental health programs and services for our children and families,” she said.

Members of OPSEU voted 93 per cent in favour of strike action on Oct. 20.

Simpson estimates that Vanier cares for roughly 3,000 patients annually.

There are no more than 10 of those patients, aged six to 13, are staying at the facility at any given time, she said.
