And he joked his achievements in the game have been forgotten after Nketiah was told he missed out on an exclusive club – players to have scored four goals in a Prem game for Arsenal.

Thierry Henry and Andriy Arshavin have managed the feat; Wright has too but in the old First Division – not the Premier League.

He joked on MOTD: “I did score four goals but it was before football was invented.”

Lineker responded in kind, saying: “At least you played in the Premier League! I don’t exist!”

The presenter also hit four goals in a match once – for England in a 4-2 win over Spain at the Bernabeu in 1987.

Nketiah’s goals were his first in ten Prem games, but he turned down the opportunity to join the prestigious four-goal club.

That is becasue he allowed Fabio Vieira to take a late penalty, which he scored to put Arsenal 4-0 up.

Shearer was shocked Nketiah did not take the chance to add his fourth with the Gunners striker saying he wanted to be a team player.

Wright praised his performance, saying: “What he done today was brilliant, I thought he was fantastic today.

“I like when he stays in and around here [in the centre of the pitch], he looked very sharp today.

“The defenders were very poor, but at the same time he was very sharp.”
