Emma Hayes is close to being confirmed as manager of the United States Women’s national team and could become the world’s highest paid female coach.
She has won 13 major trophies since joining the WSL in 2012.
Discussions with Hayes and the USA are ongoing but the London-born coach could receive a salary equal to men’s boss Greg Berhalter.
The USA won back-to-back world titles in 2015 and 2019 before a shock early exit in the last 16 of the Women’s World Cup this summer.
It was the four-time winners’ worst performance at a Women’s World Cup and head coach Vlatko Andonovski resigned after the tournament.
Hayes previously managed in the United States when she was head coach at Chicago Red Stars.
If appointed one of her first major tournaments would be the Paris Olympics next summer.
