2023-24 Premier League: Week 12 – Liverpool vs Brentford
[ad_1]
Liverpool continue their Premier League title push against Brentford at Anfield.
Victory by a two-goal margin or more would put Liverpool up to second, although a winning goal margin of at least six goals could put them top before Manchester City play in the teatime kick-off.
Brentford meanwhile could go eighth with a win if Brighton fail to win elsewhere.
Team News
Alexis Mac Allister is suspended for Liverpool after he was sent off in last weekend’s 1-1 draw at Luton, with his ban only applied to domestic fixtures which meant that he featured in their Europa League loss at Toulouse in midweek.
Virgil van Dijk (illness) and Ryan Gravenberch (knee) are doubts and face late fitness tests but Andrew Robertson (shoulder), Stefan Bajcetic (calf), Curtis Jones (hamstring) and Thiago Alcantara (hip) remain absent.
Brentford could have Mark Flekken available after he recovered from a dead leg suffered during their comeback win against West Ham last weekend.
Shandon Baptiste (fitness), Mikkel Damsgaard, Rico Henry (both knee), Josh Dasilva, Aaron Hickey (both hamstring), Kevin Schade (adductor), Keane Lewis-Potter (calf) and Ivan Toney (suspnesion) remain absent.
When is Kick-Off?
Liverpool meet Brentford in a 2pm GMT kick-off at Anfield on Sunday 12 November, untelevised live in the UK.
Stat Attack
- Liverpool have won two of their four previous Premier League meetings against Brentford (W2, D1, L1).
- Brentford have lost each of their last two trips to Anfield without scoring (L2), during which they conceded three goals.
- Josh Dasilva was used as a substitute for Brentford in both meetings against Liverpool last season.
- No African player in this season’s Premier League has produced more shots on target in the opening 11 matchweeks than Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah (15).
- Brentford’s Mathias Jensen is the only European player to have scored a free-kick in the Premier League this season.
Prediction
After suffering from a poor end product at Luton last weekend, you would of thought that Liverpool would have created a response at Toulouse yet they were lacklustre in their attacking quality with some awful defensive marking for all three conceded goals.
Brentford meanwhile showed grit and determination in their attacking play to beat West Ham especially after going behind, courtsey of some sloppy defending yet they calmly regrouped and showed more desire on the ball in the second half.
Thomas Frank’s Bees however can’t afford any drop-offs in focus here or they will surely be punished, but they are a team who won’t fear Liverpool’s attack so I expect this to be scrappy and either end in a home win or a draw.
Prediction: Liverpool 1-1 Brentford
