Darren Lockyer has given an insight into the iconic KIA advertisement that’s taken Australia by storm.

KIA launched the ad two days ago, marking its entry into the ute market but remarkably it didn’t feature a ute at all.

Legendary figures like Steve Waugh, Buddy Franklin, Ash Barty, Jessica Watson, Alexander Volkanovski and Lockyer himself featured in the ad with the video on YouTube reaching over 100,000 views already.

Lockyer’s cameo in the ad involves him and Wendell Sailor, with the league legend suggesting there could be a discount for former Australian captains.

The Broncos premiership winner explained the production value of the ad was like a “movie set”.

“I knew when we were on set it was going to be a pretty special ad,” he told Wide World of Sports’ QLDER.

“It was like a movie set the amount of people they had there in the production crew, the extras, and the talent that’s involved. It was a big production.”

Shot at The Nelson Hotel in Bondi Junction, the pub’s name was changed to Hotel Tasman in the ad with the ute expected to be called The Tasman.

Lockyer revealed there was a lengthy shutdown of the pub while production was ongoing.

“There was the pub that we did it at in Sydney, they had that closed for four days for one ad, I’d hate to think what that cost to close the pub for four days,” he laughed.

“It’s a good ad and I think a lot of people have enjoyed it thus far and let’s hope it does the trick and sells some utes.”
