Richard Curran: The ‘Bruce Springsteen index’ says we’re doing OK, but here’s 5 things that could make or break 2024

We need a new index to make sense of what is happening in the economy this year. You may have heard of the Big Mac Index, used to assess the buying power of consumers in two different countries. Then there is the Hemline Index, a theory which suggests that fashionable skirt lengths rise or fall with stock prices.

What about the “Bruce Index” – the speed with which Bruce Springsteen concert tickets sell out? The Bruce Index is running very high. It took just 90 minutes for the New Jersey superstar to sell out half his four Irish dates for May and only a handful of tickets remain for the other two despite costing over €140 per ticket.
