After receiving a diagnosis of severe recurrent depression in 2018, social worker Gary Kiernan was admitted to a mental health hospital. On World Mental Health Day, he’s encouraging care professionals to take care of themselves too

‘When I look back now, I think depression is something I’ve always had, but it all came to a head in November 2018. I felt absolutely hopeless and powerless. I felt that I couldn’t do anything through work. I just felt I didn’t have the capacity.
