The 12-year-old who appeared on the Late Late Toy Show in 2020 died earlier this month after ongoing treatment for cancer.
Her appearance on the show resulted in the foundation of the Toy Show Appeal, which has raised millions of euro for children’s charities across the country.
In a post on Instagram yesterday, her mother Roseanna wrote about being absent from social media in the weeks after Saoírse’s death.
“There’s no written rules about how long one should stay absent from the world of social media when they experience the loss of a loved one,” Ms Ruane said.
“I know there’s no expectation whatsoever, and I’m by no means ready to come on stories and have the chats or talk about anything else right now and I feel I won’t be able to for some time,” she added.
The words were posted along with a picture of Saoírse, as well as an image of a candle with her daughter’s name surrounded by an outline of wings.
Despite saying she felt “completely lost”, Ms Ruane said she wanted to acknowledge her daughter in some way every week.
“There’s a part of me that wants to give a little nod to Saoírse, especially on the anniversary of her passing each week, which is today,” she said.
“I don’t know the way forward from here, as parents we’re completely broken, as a mother I’m completely lost,” Ms Ruane added.
She said it was now her plan to post something every week about her daughter in memory of Saoírse.
“What I do know is, I will keep Saoírse’s memory alive as long as I’m alive!
“So every Tuesday, I’ll share a picture in remembrance of our gorgeous girl so everyone else will remember her too,” she said.
The post received hundreds of comments of support from followers, including from Maia Dunphy who said: “Please keep sharing her beautiful photos. We love seeing them”.
“She will always be remembered,” broadcaster Sile Seoige said.
When she was aged seven, Saoírse was diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer. It was during her treatment for the disease that Saoírse had her leg amputated.
During her appearance on the Late Late Toy Show when she was eight, the young Galway girl showed how she was able to walk with her prosthetic leg, one of the three wishes she had asked for.
