ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Now to an update for a story NEWS10 first told you about. Stained-glass windows belonging to Albany High School’s rich history are one step closer to being on display for a new generation of students to enjoy.
Last year, the Albany City School District Board of Education did a call-out for volunteers to help determine the future of 16 historic stained-glass windows that originated from the old Albany High School building on Eagle Street that served students from 1876-1913. Once the group of about 20 volunteers completed the research, the committee was on a mission to select three of the windows to be installed at Albany High School, during its final stage of renovations. Students were involved in weighing in on the decision-making process.
In January, the final three windows were selected. Window #4 called “Sunset Garden” and window #5 “Palms Crossed” were picked by both groups as the top two candidates for restoration. Then, ultimately window #6 “Smokey Torch” was selected.
The windows will then be evaluated for restoration efforts before they prepare for installation. The next course of action for the committee is to find a permanent home for the remaining 13 windows.
