ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — An Albany woman is facing animal cruelty charges after an investigation into a malnourished dog that was later euthanized.
A male pitbull mix was brought to a local veterinarian to be euthanized in March. Police said the dog was emaciated, starving, and had sustained other injuries consistent with animal cruelty. The dog was owned by 63-year-old Dawn Sabatino, who was taking care of two other dogs.
A welfare check on April 3 at a home on Elk Street found two mixed breed dogs who were underweight and had sustained other injuries. The dogs were taken to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society for evaluation and treatment.
Sabatino was arrested and charged with one count of aggravated cruelty to animals, three counts of owning/harboring unlicensed dog, and two counts of torturing or injuring animals.
