Alexis Gabe documentary to air this spring after community rally to get network to show episode on Oakley woman’s homicide

(KRON) — Earlier this month, it was announced that a documentary about Oakley woman Alexis Gabe‘s disappearance and death in 2022 was set to air this spring on several major streaming platforms. However, much to their dismay, the family received the news a few weeks later that the episode on season 27 of “On the Case With Paula Zahn” would not air this spring.
Days later, the Gabe family’s “disappointment” turned into a community rally to get Investigation Discovery to air the episode. Gwyn, her father, called for the 16,000+ members of the “Justice for Alexis Gabe” Facebook page to reach out to the network and the show’s executive producers — hoping to put pressure on them to air the already-filmed episode about Alexis.
It worked.
“Where is Alexis?” will air as the eighth and final episode of the season on April 24, Gwyn said Saturday in a Facebook post. He received a call last Thursday that host Paula Zahn decided to air the episode on Alexis this season.
The decision to air the episode came “after receiving numerous emails and comments on their site and Facebook page, as well as the significant public attention surrounding this case,” according to Gwyn. Zahn had a conversation with the family originally scheduled to be featured in episode eight who was supportive of the change.
“We did it,” Gwyn said.
Gwyn continued in the Facebook post to thank each person who supported and reached out to the network and show’s producers. He also thanked the episode’s producer who has “fought tirelessly for us.”
The episode will premiere on Wednesday, April 24 at 7 p.m. on Investigation Discovery. It will be available to watch on streaming services such as Discovery+, MAX and Amazon Prime.
“Once again, thank you for always having our backs,” Gwyn wrote. “We are truly humbled by your support and cannot wait to share this heart-wrenching episode with all of you.”
Alexis was reported missing on Jan. 26, 2022. A search went on for months with hopes she was still alive. However, in June, police said Alexis was a victim of homicide. Her body was never fully recovered, but authorities found her partial remains in Plymouth, a city approximately 45 miles east of Sacramento.
In August of 2022, “Going West: True Crime” podcast released an hour-long episode about the story of Alexis’ disappearance. For previous KRON4 stories on the Alexis Gabe case, click here.
