Andy Cohen Offers Hope For A Boozy New Year’s Eve With Anderson Cooper On ‘WWHL’: “Watch And See”

There might still be hope for a boozy New Year’s Eve with Andy Cohen and Anderson Cooper. While CNN banned the best buds from consuming alcohol on air last year, Cohen seemingly hinted that this year could be different on Sunday night’s (Dec. 17) episode of Watch What Happens Live.

At the end of his interview with Real Housewives of Potomac star Dr. Wendy Osefo and Married to Medicine star Dr. Jackie Walters, Cohen — whose talk show is going on hiatus until after the new year — reminded viewers to watch his annual New Year’s Eve broadcast with Cooper.

“I really hope you all join us on New Year’s on CNN. We have so much fun planned,” he said, while Osefo chimed in, “Are you gonna drink?”

In response, Cohen crossed his fingers as he teased, “Watch and see.”

The Bravo boss and Cooper have been co-hosting the holiday since 2017. However, they got into some trouble in 2021 when Cohen was “over-served” tequila shots and called out former Mayor Bill de Blasio for being “horrible” at his job.

“Watching Mayor de Blasio do his ‘victory lap’ dance after four years of the crappiest job as the mayor of New York,” Cohen said during the broadcast. “The only thing that Democrats and Republicans can agree on is what a horrible mayor he has been. Sayonara, sucka.”

The talk show host also drunkenly slammed Ryan Seacrest and his Dick Clark’s New Years Rockin’ Eve crew as a “group of losers.” While Cohen didn’t apologize to de Blasio, he later expressed regret over the “stupid and drunk” rant aimed at Seacrest, adding that the American Idol host is a “great guy.”

Following Cohen’s tirade, CNN asked its reporters to remain sober during the 2022 broadcast — much to the WWHL host’s dismay. While chatting with E! News at last month’s BravoCon, Cohen practically begged the network to allow him and Cooper to indulge in their boozy antics for this year’s event.

“I haven’t heard anything yet, but come on, they need to let us drink. It’s New Year’s Eve,” he told the outlet. “That didn’t go well last year in terms of viewer happiness about us drinking. People really cared and I hope CNN gives the people what they want. Give the daddies some juice.”

In less than two weeks, we’ll know for sure if CNN has said “sayonara, sucka” to its alcohol ban!
