APD: Two handguns recovered in Albany domestic incident

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — One person was arrested and two handguns were recovered in a domestic incident that occurred near Yates Street and Ontario Street in Albany, per Albany Police. Atiba Alfred, 25, faces multiple charges.

On Thursday, around 6:20 p.m., police say they found Atiba striking a woman in the face near Yates Street and Ontario Street. As an officer intervened, law enforcement says Alfred fled on foot into a home on the 400 block of Yates Street.

Authorities say while attempting to arrest him, Alfred slammed the door on an officer’s hand. He was eventually taken into custody.

Later in the investigation, police say they found a parked car that Alfred and the victim exited shortly before the incident. Law enforcement says a handgun was found in plain view on the seat in the car.

A search warrant was requested for the car and home, they were later executed and the handgun was seized. Police say another handgun was found inside luggage in the back seat of the car.

Charges:

  • Second-degree criminal possession of a weapon (two counts)
  • Second-degree assault
  • Fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property
  • Second-degree obstructing governmental administration
  • Resisting arrest
  • Third-degree assault

Alfred was arraigned in Albany City Criminal Court on Friday and is remanded to the Albany County Jail.
