Mercedes junior, Paul Aron will partner Amaury Cordeel at Hitech GP for the 2024 F2 season.
Aron graduated to F2 with Trident in the final round of this season’s championship as a replacement for Clement Novalak, but the Estonian will now move to Hitech GP for a full rookie campaign in 2024.
This season saw Aron finish third in F3 following an intense scrap between four drivers for the vice-champion honour, during which the 19 year–old took victory in the Austrian Sprint plus a trio of third-placed finishes.
Speaking about his full-time move into F2, Aron commented: “I’m really pleased to be joining Hitech in F2 for 2024. It will be a really important step in my career, coming off a strong rookie season in F3 where I took third overall.
“I’m looking forward to developing my skills with the Hitech team and I am confident we can hit the ground running next year.”
Cordeel meanwhile switches from Virtuosi to Hitech for his third season in F2 after he battled to 20th position in the standings, in a tough campaign for the 21 year-old Belgian after he had spent his rookie season with Van Amersfoort Racing in 2022.
Feeling “excited” to stay in F2 for a third consecutive year, Cordeel said: “I’m ready to take on the challenge and write the next chapter of my racing journey with this incredible team. I am so grateful for the opportunity and look forward to the start of the new season in February.”
Hitech GP Team Manager, Clive Hatton is “enthusiastic” about working with Aron and Cordeel next season.
Addressing the decision to sign Cordeel despite the Belgian’s difficult second season in the category, Hatton commented: “Amaury has 2 years’ worth of experience in FIA F2. Showing a rise in performance in recent rounds we hope to build on this in post season testing and into next season.”
Hatton meanwhile believes that Aron has proved himself worthy of a F2 seat and is targeting victories, as he added: “Paul has proved himself to be a championship contender last year in FIA F3, and the previous 2 years in FRECA.
“We are eager to see them both working with the team, performing on track and fighting for victories.”
