A 27-year-old woman in northern Manitoba was forcibly confined, assaulted and severely injured in an incident last week, RCMP say.
Police were called when the woman showed up at the nursing station in Easterville around 2 p.m. on Dec. 31.
The assault took place at a residence in the community on Dec. 28, but she had not been able to seek medical help sooner because the man accused of attacking her has also forcibly confined her in the residence, RCMP said in a Friday news release.
The woman was transported to The Pas Health Complex and then airlifted to Winnipeg for her serious injuries.
A 24-year-old man had also been assaulted in the residence but suffered minor injuries that did not require hospital care.
A 26-year-old man was arrested on Jan. 1 and charged with aggravated assault, forcible confinement and failure to comply with a previous release order, RCMP said.
The man and his victims are known to one another, according to police.
Easterville is on the southern shoreline of Cedar Lake, about 125 kilometres southeast of The Pas.
