BC Ferries announced before noon on Saturday that two sailings between Tsawwassen and Victoria have been cancelled.

The 6 p.m. sailing leaving from Tsawwassen and the 8 p.m. sailing departing from Victoria (Swartz Bay) have been cancelled. The cancellations are credited due to staffing issues.

“Our Customer Service Centre will contact customers with bookings on these cancelled sailings to let them know if we have space available to fit them on an alternate sailing later in the day, or if their booking must be cancelled,” BC Ferries staff said in a notice.

“In the case of a cancellation, we will refund fees and/or fares.”

On Tuesday, BC Ferries CEO Nicolas Jimenez said despite a major vessel being out of service, he’s confident sailing will be smooth.

More than 520,000 passengers and 200,000 vehicles are expected to use BC Ferries over the long weekend.

The Coastal Renaissance has been out of service for engine repairs since mid-August and is due to return in mid-October.
