Bill Belichick: Mac Jones will start at QB, Patriots ‘not making any changes’

FOXBORO — Mac Jones will start at quarterback for the Patriots on Sunday against the Raiders.
Head coach Bill Belichick confirmed the news Wednesday morning in a news conference.
“Yeah, we’re not making any changes,” he said when asked if Jones will start in Las Vegas.
Belichick had said after Sunday’s 34-0 loss to the Saints that Jones would continue to be the Patriots’ starter. Offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien said Tuesday that he anticipated that Jones would start Week 6.
A report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Monday seemed to imply that the Patriots could make a switch at quarterback. Schefter
“Look, I think it’s fair to say that when they play the Las Vegas Raiders this week, that the offense isn’t going to look the same,” Schefter said on the “Pat McAfee Show.” “What that means, we’ll find out as the week evolves.”
The Patriots’ other options would be Bailey Zappe, who has struggled in training camp, preseason and mop-up duty, Will Grier, who arrived three weeks ago from the Bengals’ practice squad, and Malik Cunningham, who has spent most of his reps at wide receiver as he continues his hybrid QB/pass-catcher role on the practice squad.
If the Patriots had a better option to replace Jones, the QB’s job security likely wouldn’t be as safe.
