A 50-year-old man suffered “severe and possibly life-threatening” injuries in Brockton Saturday morning after police say a Toyota Rav 4 struck him, according to police.

A spokesperson for the Brockton Police Department said authorities responded at 8:52 a.m. to the area of 88 North Main St. for the crash. The Brockton Fire Department and medical personnel also arrived at the scene to render aid to the 50-year-old, authorities said.

“Brewster Ambulance transported him to the hospital with severe and possibly life-threatening injuries,” the Brockton Police Department spokesperson said. “State Police detectives have joined Brockton detectives in investigating this case. It remains an active scene.”

The status of the driver of the Toyota Rav 4 was not immediately provided.

The crash in Brockton comes after a string of incidents around Boston involving vehicles and pedestrians, including multiple fatalities, and a push by local city councilors to reduce the speed limit in the city.

This is a developing story.
