Budget retailer at Scottish shopping centre set to be transformed into ‘megastore’

A BUDGET retailer could be set to open a megastore in a Scots shopping centre under new plans.
Proposals have been approved to extend the Poundland store at Newkirkgate in Leith into an empty unit next door.
It comes after an application was lodged with the council to take over the neighbouring BrightHouse store.
Poundland confirmed the megastore could open in early 2024, reports the Edinburgh Evening News.
It’s hoped punters will be able to take advantage of a full range of food, drink, homeware, pet goods, entertainment and stationery.
And a number of new jobs could be up for grabs when the store launches.
A staff member said: “We are going to be extending into the shop unit next door. The shop will double in size to be a megastore.
“It’s good to see things progressing at the centre after Farmfoods closed and the Lidl was shut for a while for refurbishment.
“It could mean extra jobs too but we don’t know the full details of that yet.”
Poundland recently announced the opening of a brand new store at Glasgow’s Braehead Shopping Centre.
The shop is TWICE the size of the old one, as it takes up home in the old Dorothy Perkins unit.
And it is one of 400 stores across the UK bringing in fresh fruit and veg.
