Defender, Hugo Bueno has signed a new five year contract at Wolves until June 2028 with option for a further 12 months.

Bueno has made 30 first-team appearances for Wolves since he graudated from the Under-21s set-up last Autumn, during which he provided just one assist which came in the opening goal of a 2-1 defeat at Crystal Palace in October 2022.

The Spaniard has since struggled with injuries but was an unused substitute during Wolves’ dramatic home win over Tottenham earlier this month, with his hard work ultimately rewarded with a new five-year contract plus the option of a further year.

Speaking about his decision to commit his future to the club, Bueno said: “I’m so happy to sign this new deal. It’s a little bit of a gift from the club for my work and I feel really happy about that, all the confidence they had in me, to give me the chance to play professionally in the Premier League.

“I just want to say thanks to them and hopefully with my hard work I can keep giving them good performances, good matches for the team. To sign five more years here makes me feel at home.”

Bueno went on to add that he is “… enjoying every minute,” of his timee in the first team but is eager to continue his development, as he vowed to stay “… just focused on this season and trying to get better every day, and hopefully keep growing up.”

Wolves’ Sporting Director, Matt Hobbs added that Bueno is “one of the huge success stories of the club”, having joined from Spain’s CD Areosa at 16 years-old, and applauded the 21 year-old for his “professional” attitude at the club.

Hobbs also noted that Rayan Ait-Nouri has provided Bueno with a rival for the starting left-back position, as he explained: “We’ve got two young, exciting left-backs, who are slightly different, but both have huge talent.

“They’re competing against each other and they’re really close as well, so it’s a healthy competition, but we will see the benefits of that from both of their performances.”
