CAMBRIDGE, N.Y. (NEWS10) — The Cambridge Central School District School Board voted Thursday night on the district’s new mascot. The decision to becomes the Tigers was passed unanimously with a vote of 5-0.
The district will develop a new logo by the start of the next school year. The name change comes after a years-long battle over whether the New York State Board of Education had the authority to force the district to change their mascot.
The state is requiring all public schools to eliminate mascots and team names with Native American imagery.
