AURORA, Colo. (KDVR) — A metro-area woman is vowing to get her therapy dog back.

Tammie Ricci said after a January hospitalization, she gave 2-year-old Maggie to her mother and sister to take care of the black Labrador-blue heeler while she was hospitalized after a fire.

“Maggie was my shadow,” Ricci told FOX31. “She followed me everywhere.”

Shortly thereafter, Ricci said her sister relinquished the owner rights to Aurora Animal Shelter.

“I have PTSD, Maggie was everything to me,” Ricci said.

Ricci said the shelter told her Maggie had been transferred to another shelter, but not much more. Maggie is not chipped.

Reached after hours by FOX31, a shelter spokesperson said they will take a closer look at the case on Tuesday.
