Canucks’ Soucy out six to eight weeks with lower-body injury

Defenceman Carson Soucy will be sidelined for six to eight weeks as he recovers from a lower-body injury, the Vancouver Canucks announced Wednesday.

The 29-year-old sustained the injury in Sunday’s win against the Montreal Canadiens after blocking a shot by Juraj Slafkovsky in the second period. Soucy did not return to that game.

On Tuesday, Canucks head coach Rick Tocchet told media that Soucy would be out “week-to-week” but said the defenceman still had to undergo further evaluation.

This timeline puts Soucy’s return to the lineup in late December, at the earliest.

Soucy joined the Canucks in free agency and inked a three-year, $9.75-million contract on July 1. In 12 games, he’s scored two goals and five points.
